1820s Gents eveningwear - Theatrical Costume course
This was the first project on the costume making course with an allocated time of six weeks. The project elements were: research and design development, pattern drafting using historical sources, producing samples to develop specific techniques (e.g. split falls), and tailoring for the tailcoat.
This was a challenging first project that introduced me to a range of techniques that I’d not used before. The tailcoat itself involved so many hidden hand sewing techniques, including flat tacking all pieces, pad stitching the hair and collar canvas in place and stab stitching the lapels, collar and back of the tailcoat.
