Laura wedding dress - private commission
I was commissioned by Laura to make a 1950s-inspired wedding dress, bolero, brooch and hair accessory. It was important for Laura to have a dress that she could wear again, so she wasn’t looking for a traditional wedding dress.
We had a few initial meetings to discuss Laura’s ideas and my design sketches. Laura chose a strapless design consisting of a princess line bodice and three quarter circle skirt. I made up a toile of the chosen design before moving on to the final dress. The dress included detachable straps and a ribbon belt.
To accompany the dress I made a contrasting bolero jacket, from a commercial pattern, and a matching floral brooch and hair accessory. Both the accessories consisted of individual ribbon petals, wire and pearl handmade stamens, and a metal alligator clip on the hair accessory and a metal brooch fastener.
